Bio

Born and raised in Toronto, Kim Fox has called Montreal home since 1999.  She strives to bring the abstract sensations and imagery of dreams alive through collaged narrative works. In recent years she has developed her love for both old master style and lowbrow modern works, through the use of a variety of techniques simultaneously. She is a social justice advocate with a focus on food issues.

She studied special arts and couture sewing at Central technical school in Toronto and completed a degree in costume design in Montreal in 2002 all the while falling in love with art happening off of the canvas, out of traditional settings, in the streets. She’s worked to hone her skills through experimenting with a wide variety of materials and methods on a variety of supports from tiny blocks to large murals, out doors on walls and on canvas.

Kim participated in a number of group shows from 2003-2006, has sold in the street and has painted murals both live and commercially.

From 2007-2012, she took several studio classes at Concordia University while completing a degree in political science. A passion for social and food systems justice fuels much of her work.

Unmarried to any particular technique or method, Kim loves to play with perspective and the figure often building narratives with images from personal photos, collected images, and imagined spaces. Human, animal, environmental – she’s interested in relationships, societies and the belief systems and power dynamics which influence them. Immersing herself in the meditation of repetitive motion, recent paintings bustle with patterns and tiles. Kim is driven by the process of making work and often spends months on a piece.

Kim currently shares a studio space with respected street artist Labrona at le Livart, a vibrant community of painters. She has had the pleasure of exhibiting works with artists; Labrona, Chris Dyer, Chris Ross, Kismet, Kevin Ledo, John Brown, Akira,  Madeleine Sperlich, Barry Walsh,  Dsturbo, Edward Spider and many more.
